Yes I have a sweet tooth and I wanted to know what is out there to heal and of course satisfy us. With MS, any type of illness or wanting to have a good healthcare, keeping off anything made with processed sugars is vitally important for healing and health maintenance. Just because I have withdrawn off sweet toxins – refined sugar & artificial sweeteners – does not mean we miss out on a treat.
I have found a raw chocolate called Cacao, mixed with other ingredients it is delicious and nutritious. Cacao is a type of tropical tree, part of the evergreen family that produces the world’s chocolate in raw form, before fat, sugar, and other sweeteners are added. You can buy Organic Cacao from all health stores.
Cacao trees only grow in tropical areas like South America and Mexico. That is where most of the Cacao comes from. Cacao can increase the level of serotonin your brain produces. I nibble on Organic Cacao Nibs (from a health store) with diced banana, which can raise your levels up, and tastes great.
If you’re not deficient in serotonin Cacao will give you a stimulating effect, making you happy. It also is loaded with essential minerals, they are magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium and manganese. Cacao also has essential vitamins which are A, B1, B2, B3, C&E.
For something interesting, several hundred years ago Cacao Beans were a form of currency and was considered as valuable as coins.
Cacao is a great food and mixed with my recipes it makes a yummy drink, sauce for dessert, coconut fudge and more.
Raw Choc Smoothie
½ Cup of Organic Rice, Almond, Oats or Coconut Milk
1 Chopped Date
¼ – 1/2 a Teaspoon of Organic Cacao Powder
¼ Cup of Water or 2 Cubes of Ice
1 Banana – ready to eat, or frozen diced
1 Big Spoon of Chia Seeds or 1 Teaspoon of Chlorella Powder
– Put all the ingredients in a big blender or a hand mixer – one that can crush ice cubes – Mix for 1-2 minutes. Serves 1
Joanne’s Tip – Place your glass in the fridge beforehand to get cool. Using frozen banana makes the drink even more creamy and thick.
